The Mohave County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Search and Rescue team recently conducted a swift water rescue operation north of Lake Havasu City. The rescue involved two individuals, a 25-year-old female and a 28-year-old male, who had become stranded in their recreational vehicle (RV) in Craggy Wash.

The MCSO received the initial call for assistance at approximately 6:10 p.m. on September 28. This distress call prompted the immediate deployment of rescue personnel to the remote location. Craggy Wash, where the incident unfolded, is situated north of the Lake Havasu City Municipal Airport. This area is known for its natural washes and desert terrain, which can be prone to water accumulation during precipitation events.

The specific circumstances leading to the RV becoming stranded were related to swift water conditions present in the wash. The presence of moving water in such natural drainage paths, particularly after rainfall, can create hazardous environments for vehicles and individuals. The specialized Mohave County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team was responsible for the successful execution of the swift water rescue. These teams are trained to handle challenging environments and to extract individuals safely from perilous situations involving moving water.

The swift response by the MCSO team was crucial in assisting the two stranded individuals. The 25-year-old female and 28-year-old male were successfully extracted from their RV and the wash, bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.

Following the rescue, the MCSO issued a reminder regarding the inherent dangers of camping in natural washes. They specifically cautioned against such activities, particularly "when rain forecast." Washes, by their nature, are natural drainage paths for rainwater. Even seemingly dry washes can quickly fill with fast-moving water during and after precipitation events, posing significant risks.

The Sheriff's Office reiterated that "camping in a wash should be highly discouraged," emphasizing the need for vigilance, especially when there is any indication of impending rainfall. This incident underscores critical safety advice for those venturing into natural desert areas within the region. Travelers and campers are consistently advised to monitor weather forecasts and be aware of their surroundings, particularly in low-lying areas and washes that are susceptible to rapid water accumulation.
