Maverick Gaming, led by CEO Eric Persson, is in the process of repurchasing several Nevada casinos from RunItOneTime LLC, a Texas-based holding company currently navigating a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. This strategic move, expected to finalize for two Elko casinos in approximately three weeks, is intended to avert the closure of properties and the layoff of workers previously announced through federal WARN Act letters.
The acquisition plan includes the Gold County Inn and the Maverick Casino Hotel in Elko, with a similar process underway for the Wendover Hotel & Casino and the Red Garter Hotel & Casino in West Wendover. Additionally, the non-gaming High Desert Inn in Elko is part of this transfer. Persson confirmed that, despite the prior notices, "there will be no disruption and all the employees will be rehired."
RunItOneTime LLC, which Persson and his partners formed a decade ago, filed for bankruptcy last year. The holding company had previously owned Maverick's casinos in Nevada and Colorado, alongside cardroom casinos in Washington. Confusion surrounding the bankruptcy arose because Maverick Gaming was listed in the initial paperwork as an owner of the company. However, Persson has clarified that the current Maverick Gaming business is separate and not involved in the bankruptcy. He stated he bought back the Maverick Gaming name as part of an asset transfer to his lenders in July 2025, who then initiated bankruptcy proceedings through a separate entity.
Last week, RunItOneTime LLC issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act letters in Nevada, signaling plans to close the Gold County Inn and the Maverick Casino Hotel in Elko on November 30, affecting 239 workers. These letters, required under federal law to provide a 60-day notice of workplace closing, were filed with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR). Human Resources Director Leticia Flores, who signed the WARN letters, informed Elko employees of a possible change of operator or owner that could prevent or delay the closure, noting the company's subjection to bankruptcy court proceedings.
Gaming Control Board Chairman Mike Dreitzer confirmed the agency's active involvement in the matter, stating they have been extensively in contact with Persson. The board previously facilitated a similar transfer for the Primm properties at the California-Nevada border, moving operations from Affinity Gaming to Terrible's Gaming earlier this year, ensuring their continued operation.
RunItOneTime LLC’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in July 2025 listed liabilities between $100 million and $500 million. Prior to its bankruptcy, the company operated nearly two dozen licensed cardrooms in Washington, mainly around Seattle, which typically feature up to 15 table games like baccarat, poker, and variations of blackjack. The company had announced in June the closure of two casinos and the layoff of 132 employees, followed last month by plans to close eight more properties and lay off over 800 workers. Persson, however, indicated this week that he would also buy back these smaller casinos, with employees being rehired. Maverick Gaming's headquarters moved to Kirkland, Washington, in 2022 to focus on its cardroom casinos in that state.
